Rehabilitation and extension of the regional academy in Perpignan - 20 February 2012
Due to high demand resulting from its good reputation, the regional “Perpignan Méditerranée” music, dance and drama academy needs to be expanded (1,500 students enrolled for a capacity of 700).
The regional academy’s existing HVAC equipment is currently undergoing renovation works (design and construction supervision services provided by Girus).
In compliance with the works schedule and in the context of our assistance with the design studies, we have proposed to assist the project Owner with the analysis of HQE (French sustainable construction standard) aspects in reports proposed by the engineering firm responsible for the extension project contract. This assistance will be provided at the end of each design phase (preliminary design, detailed designs and assistance with works contracts) and we will also provide a HQE monitoring report, concerning the achievement of HQE targets in particular.
The 2,500 m2 extension consists of two new buildings and a ground level in between the two. The dynamic façade of the building will change depending on the opening/closing of blinds and will thereby resemble a music equaliser.
An undulating canopy decorated with musical note-shaped photovoltaic cells will create a link between the buildings. A landscaped esplanade will stage concerts in the summer.
The whole scheme is designed to be environment-friendly, in accordance with a “green building site” charter, the HQE approach and the RT 2012 French thermal regulation.

- Estimated cost of works relating to the extension project carried out by a consortium consisting of B.E.S.T. and Chabanne & partners (architects): between €6,100,000 and €6,500,000.
